About Us

Jim Benton started Action Builders, the predecessor to Townsend, Inc., in Brown Summit, NC in 1979. Then, as now, TOWNSEND RENOVATION SERVICES provided comprehensive after-disaster work to insurance companies helping residential and commercial owners return their homes and facilities to their prior functionality and appearance.

The business thrived throughout the next three and a half decades as Jim and his team earned a reputation as the most highly regarded renovation construction firm in the region. Recognized for the quality of their work, professionalism, dependability, and accountability, the business continued to grow and evolve.

Jim’s wife, Gail, became President and Owner, and with her outstanding design skills, extensive knowledge of construction, and talent for selecting the best subcontractors, projects started coming directly from homeowners who weren’t seeking after-disaster renovations. As a result of this new and growing demand, TOWNSEND DESIGN CENTER was established in 2012.

Gail and Jim’s children, Aaron (Vice President) and Sherri (Designer), along with Joe Burcham (Manager of the Mitigation Division) and Dwayne Chandler (Flooring Expert), round out the management team. Today, the Townsend name continues to stand for impeccable workmanship, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to client satisfaction.

TOWNSEND DESIGN CENTER, at 7202 Brown Summit Road in Brown Summit, is an eclectic gallery offering the latest styles in flooring, wallpaper, bath, kitchen, and lighting products. Every aspect of your renovation can be previewed and approved from a comprehensive selection of products from trusted vendors.
